The Green Path

The Green Path (Parcours Vert) is an environmental awareness and artistic awakening program.

True to its vocation of environmental and artistic education, the Palais de Lomé is launching a pilot project aimed at 1,000 Lomé public school pupils aged 7 to 15. Access to these workshops is free for pupils taking part in the pilot project.

The Parcours Vert aims to set up workshops and a path through Lomé’s Parc du Palais to enable children to:

– Learn to value their environment and the importance of biodiversity

– Raise awareness of waste-related issues

– Acquire practical and environmental knowledge

– Learn about the traditional uses of plants (medicinal plants, vegetable dyes, soap)

– Develop personal imagination and creative potential

– Bring ecology into schools.

The links that the Palais forges with schools enable us to set up medium- to long-term projects.

Each selected class will take part in at least 5 workshops throughout the school year, to develop learning through observation over the long term.

Examples of workshops :

– Plant Workshops (soap-making; vegetable dyeing and painting; nourishment: seeds, cereals and plants; discovering medicinal plants from traditional Togolese medicine; gardening).

– Biodiversity Workshops (Learning about the mangrove ecosystem; observing and hearing birds; exploring the fascinating world of bees; participating in an insect workshop)

– drawing biodiversity (drawing; comic strip).

At the end of the Green Path project, participating pupils will be asked to carry out a green action “outside the school walls,” on the premises of their school, or in their neighborhood.

Follow us on this educational adventure!

We’d like to thank the entire European Union team for their logistical and material support.

Thanks also to the school principals and teachers who have agreed to take part in this pilot project.
